Archie Mayfield, age 81, of Archer City, Texas passed away Saturday morning in Wichita Falls.

At Archie’s request, there will be no service. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City.

Archie was born July 14, 1941 in Knox City, Texas to the late Burley and Lena Miller Mayfield.

He was a 1961 graduate of Wichita Falls High School. Archie honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from August 15, 1966 until August 14, 1970.

After his tour of duty, he returned to Colorado and was employed in public service for several years.

He married Lois Helen Hart Haigood on August 12, 1999 in Stonewall, Colorado.

In 1999, he moved to Archer City where he served on the Archer Service Center Board. He was employed for Terry Love Upholstery for over fifteen years. Archie was known as “Santa Claus” in Archer City for several years and was the “Santa Claus” for Christmas on the Square for the last few years.

Archie enjoyed fishing and loved music. He and Lois attended Blue Grass, Gospel and Country Music Festivals and Jamborees throughout the area.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Archer City; one son, Wallace Mayfield and wife, Lynne of Vallejo , California; two step-sons, Michael Lee Haigood and wife, Trish of Sweetwater and Charlie Lee Haigood and wife, Gay of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gayle Caton; one step-daughter, Debra Lee Reeves; one sister and five brothers.
